In addition to announcing the new BBM Social Platform SDK 1.0 for BlackBerry WebWorks in beta, Research In Motion also made official the availability or a final flavor of its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Social Platform SDK 1.0 for Java.

The new release follows a wide period of availability in Beta, and comes with a range of fixes and enhancements, as well as with some new features included into the mix.

With the new BBM Social Platform SDK 1.0 for Java available for download, developers who have been building applications using the tool can start submitting their software to the BlackBerry App World application store.

All applications developed using the BBM Social Platform SDK 1.0 (for Java or BlackBerry WebWorks) need the BBM 6 to be installed on devices.

The company also announced that those applications built using the BBM Social Platform and submitted by July 8th, 2011 will be reviewed and that they could become available as soon as the BBM v6.0.0 app is released.

The release notes for the new BBM Social Platform SDK 1.0 for Java include: - Added the ability for an application to receive invitations from other users who are not on their contact list. - Contact picker UI changed to improve selection of multiple contacts and multi-user chat. - Added the ability to send a “join” invite to a user who does not have the app installed. They will see a download invite and after installing the app will receive a join invite. - Added a new API to determine whether the app is running on the test platform or production platform.

Developers interested in adding BBM capabilities inside their application should download the new SDK, available from Softpedia here.

They will also need to compile the app using the new flavor of the tool, and then to download and install the BBM v6.0.0 from BlackBerry Beta Zone website, to test the newly included features.
