Starting today, owners of Android-based devices can download and install a new appealing application, namely the BBC iPlayer Radio, which was just made available for download through the official storefront.

With this app, users will be able to enjoy BBC Radio wherever they go, and also to listen to live radio from all the BBC’s UK radio stations, regardless of whether they’re connected to Wi-Fi or mobile networks.

As BBC notes, however, while the service is offered for free to all users, the streaming of the radio might prove data-intensive, and carriers could charge users for that. These charges could increase if users stream the radio when roaming outside the UK.

In other words, users should make sure that they take advantage of the BBC iPlayer Radio for Android application via Wi-Fi networks as often as possible.

The application will provide users with the possibility to easily switch between stations when needed, while also enabling them to see what’s on-air across all stations via the Full Programme Guide.

On top of that, the BBC iPlayer Radio for Android comes with access to on-demand programmes from the past 7 days (this feature does not work on some Galaxy S III devices, due to some issues with the firmware, it seems).

Some of the main features that the application arrives on devices with include:

- See the currently playing track on music stations - Find out what music and guests featured in on-demand programmes - Set an alarm to wake up to your favourite station - Set alerts for upcoming programmes - Watch video clips including music sessions - Find hundreds of BBC Podcasts to listen to - Browse programmes by Schedule, Category, Featured and Most Popular - Listen in the background or in standby, with quick access to what’s playing via the notifications panel

The new BBC iPlayer Radio for Android application is available for download as version 1.1.0.1105383 at the moment and can be found on this page on Softpedia.
