Touted as the conclusion of the long Avernum series of games,
Avernum 6 has been out for a month now (for Mac OS X) and it’s already getting maintenance updates. Avernum 6 is coming to Windows PC gamers in Spring 2010.
“We have updated Avernum 6 for the Macintosh to v1.0.1,” the latest update on the Spiderweb Software website
reads. “This update makes the game a little bit easier and fixes a few minor bugs,” the company reveals. Spiderweb also explains that, whether you’re new to the game, or looking to update your existing version, all you need to do is download the demo and drag it into your Applications folder.
For those who didn’t previously own the title, the newest version of Avernum 6 will run in demo mode. For those who already have it on their Macs, the registration will remain unchanged, and the game will be updated to the newest version.
According to the company, as you wander the gigantic universe of Avernum, you experience:
- An enormous world. Hundreds of quests, dozens of dungeons and enemy fortresses, and multitudes of characters.
- A fascinating storyline, full of surprises, treachery, and epic battles.
- Many unique encounters. Not just mindless hack and slash. Many unusual enemies that will require clever tactics to defeat.

- Experience with previous Avernum games is completely unnecessary to enjoy Avernum 6. Avernum 6 requires a Macintosh running OS X 10.3.9 or later, a 1.6GhZ processor (minimum), a video card or processor with OpenGL support and 32MB video RAM (64 MB recommended), 512MB of RAM, 200MB of hard disk space, and a 1024x600 screen resolution with 32-bit color. According to Spiderweb Software, Avernum 6 will run natively on Intel Macs.
