It appears that the recently-introduced Apple Configurator was in desperate need of some maintenance, as Apple has released version 1.0.1 with a ton of new features and tweaks that are mostly aimed at resolving some limitations.

Released in March (around the same time the new iPad rolled out), Apple Configurator allows pretty much anyone to mass-configure and deploy Apple’s entire range of iDevices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch) in a school, a business, or an institution.

Apple Configurator 1.0.1 is said to be a recommended update for all users of the device-management app. The new version is exclusively available from the Mac App Store, according to the Cupertino, California-based computer giant.

The release notes offered on the Mac App Store seem to differ (slightly) from the change log available on Apple’s Support site.

The latter appears to be the complete set of changes for this new version, which “improves overall stability and performance and addresses a number of issues.”

Admins having trouble importing and installing enterprise apps packaged as .ipa files should no longer experience any issues.

Now, they can also import redemption codes for apps that contain a comma in their title and, if the original device is unsupervised and erased by Apple Configurator, or if the app's installation did not complete on the original device, a redemption code may be reused to install an app on another device.

The same code may also be used to install the app on one device with Apple Configurator, but only if it was used to purchase the app in iTunes.

Ending the list of fixes regarding redemption codes, the ones remaining unused for an app is now displayed correctly. Other changes implemented in Configurator 1.0.1 include:

- Notes and bookmarks entered into iBooks and iTunes U are deleted when a backup is restored to a supervised device. - The WPA2 password is saved when editing a Wi-Fi profile payload. - The name of a stored backup is saved when edited. - The storage capacity of an 8 GB iPod touch is now displayed correctly. - The "Erase all contents and settings" checkbox on the Prepare pane has been relabeled "Erase before installing".
