14 DAY TRIAL // Amazon’s Basic Kindle E-Reader has a new Firmware Update version 4.1.1, but unfortunately, this package has no change log whatsoever. So because of this, some forum users are not quite happy with the lack of transparency regarding the updates.
Despite this issue, we assume that there are some performance improvements or certain bug fixes; otherwise, the transition between 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 version would be rather useless.
Anyway, to update your device to the 4.1.1 version, first check your current one by going to Menu → Settings – it will be visible at the bottom of the screen.
If the displayed version isn’t 4.1.0, you must first install this firmware in order to be able to update to the latest. Specifically speaking, you must complete two steps instead of one: installing the 4.1.0 version, and then the latest 4.1.1 firmware.
So, depending on your current version (4.1.0 or earlier), you must perform the update process at least one time. Now, connect the device to your computer through a USB cable, copy the downloadable file into the root folder of the drive, and disconnect the e-Reader.
Go to Menu → Settings → Menu → Update Your Kindle and select the OK button to start the update process. When it completes, the device will restart and you will see “Version: Kindle 4.1.1”.
