A month after the Adobe Flash Player 10.3 plugin was made available, AIR 2.7 follows suit with the updated version being available on all major platforms, with the exception of Linux which is no longer supported. AIR 2.7 comes with plenty of new features, on both the mobile and the desktop front, on top of the new stuff from Flash Player 10.3, which is included in AIR 2.7.

"We are pleased to announced the availability of AIR2.7. This release includes a number of feature enhancements, important bug fixes, and security patches," Adobe announced.

Adobe is making a big push on mobile devices, with its Flash runtime and to a lesser degree with AIR.

AIR could be particularly appealing to developers since it enables them to write a single code base that is guaranteed to work across platforms, Android, iOS, BlackBerry and so on.

AIR 2.7 brings some big performance improvements for iOS, anything having to do with rendering in CPU mode will see big gains. At the same time, Android users can now install the AIR 2.7 runtime on their SD cards rather than on their phones' internal storage.

On the desktop front, the big new features mostly come from Flash Player. Developers working with video content can now use the Media Measurements set of tools which provides granular analytics data with very little work.

AIR 2.7 also adds Acoustic Echo Cancellation to the number of tools used for enhancing audio conversations. This is a desktop only feature, but it enables developers to provide much better voice quality for chat apps.

Another new feature is the Enhanced HTMLLoader API which enables developers to control how their apps handle clickable links from HTML content, enabling them to be opened inside the app rather than in a browser.
