Originally developed by Adam Iser, Adium is a popular instant messaging application for Mac OS X supporting most IM protocols available today. The latest (beta) version of the software delivers general enhancements, as well as an updated pidgin-facebookchat, and a fix for Yahoo! subscribers.
According to the release notes for Adium 1.4 Beta 8, general enhancements include the addition of an Imageshack.us image upload service, and clarified Twitter error messages when a timeline update fails. "Echo a status message when a Tweet is successfully sent," the text reads. The developer was also able to fix lingering Yahoo! issues with double messages, contacts not going offline, etc., according to the changelog, as well as to update the pidgin-facebookchat, adding group/friend-list support, and fixing user icons.
Adium combines numerous IM protocols, such as the AOL Instant Messenger (including ICQ and .Mac), Jabber (including Google Talk), MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, Novell Groupwise and Lotus Sametime. The IM client also gives users the possibility to connect with multiple types of accounts at the same time, combining all their friend groups into one big list. Supported buddy icons comprise AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! The IM Mac client has a customizable appearance as well.
With the release of Adium 1.3 last year, the team behind Adium added a slew of new features and enhancements, including a complete redesign of the Contact Inspector (formerly, the Get Info Window), a Facebook Chat service, a search field to the Standard Contact List window, and more.
The stable version of Adium is 1.3.4. Released last month, the final version of Adium 1.3.4 delivers facebook fixes, updates to pidgin-facebook 1.5.0, fixing a major bug in which massive amounts of data could be continuously sent and received under certain situations, as well as several minor bugs. The stable Adium also resolves a display issue in message windows when running Safari 4.
