14 DAY TRIAL // The launch of Microsoft's next-generation Windows 7 operating system has spawned a new interest in the computer industry, with some companies hoping the new OS will raise the consumer demand for new PCs. A number of industry players have updated their product portfolio to support the latest OS, which is also the case with Sunnyvale, California-based AMD, which has just announced the release of a new set of Catalyst Drivers for its line of graphics processing units. The new Catalyst 9.10 Driver Suite comes with a number of new features and support for the latest operating systems, including the aforementioned Windows 7.
According to the release notes of AMD's new Catalyst Software Suite 9.10, users will be provided with the Radeon display driver 8.661, as well as the HydraVision for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. The suite also contains the WDM Driver Install bundle, the Southbridge/IXP driver and the Catalyst Control Center 8.661.The new set of drivers adds support for AMD's latest line of graphics cards, ranging from the older Radeon HD 2400-series to the newer Radeon HD 5800-series. Surprisingly enough, the release notes don't mention the more affordable alternative to a DirectX 11 graphics card, namely the Radeon HD 5700 series, but that's likely a misprint and the new drivers most likely deliver support for said series.
Among the new features that have been enabled in the new release, AMD highlights the GPU acceleration for the Windows 7 Drag and Drop video converting application and the Super Sample Anti-Aliasing for the ATI Radeon HD 5800 series. The first feature is supported by both the company's ATI Radeon HD 5000-series and HD 4000-series. The second feature is only supported by the latest ATI Radeon HD 5800 series and is said to provide users with a high level of anti-aliasing quality.
