14 DAY TRIAL // Not looking to let its consumers down, Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices has recently introduced a new set of graphics drivers, which the outfit has integrated in the new release of its Catalyst 10.6 suite. The new release offers a number of new features as well as a series of performance increments, which should improve the overall graphics experience for Radeon HD 5000-series users. AMD's Catalyst 10.6 is now available for download right here on Softpedia.
One of the main features that have been integrated in the new release is the added support for Adobe's highly-anticipated Flash 10.1, which has recently been launched on the market. With this support, Radeon cards will be able to help with the optimization of a computer system by offering GPU acceleration of H.264 video content. According to AMD, this GPU acceleration is now available for users of Radeon HD 5000 and Radeon 4000 series, alongside the Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series (and higher) and Radeon HD 3000 series integrated graphics.
Among the highlighted new features, AMD also talks about video de-blocking and mosquito noise reduction, but also about the official support added for Open GL 4.0 and OpenGL.3.3 on ATI Radeon HD 5000 series and ATI Radeon HD Series, respectively.
A long list of performance enhancements in a number of today's popular games is also included in the release notes. According to said list, users should see a performance increase of up to 18% on CrossFire and single card ATI Radeon HD 5970 configurations, while the same increase should also be noticed on ATI Radoen HD 5800 series products.
