50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic version 1.4 is now available for iPhone and iPad users, with Retina display optimizations and minor design updates and bug fixes.

For an app that focuses entirely on the user’s visual experience, you’d think National Geographic would have made Retina graphics already, but no. Despite the fact that Apple has been selling Retina-display devices since 2010, the National Geographic Society has taken its time in making the 50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic worthy of high-fidelity pixels.

National Geographic’s 50 Greatest Photographs comes with the most iconic images ever taken worldwide by the magazine’s professional photographers, complete with behind-the-scenes stories about each shot, as well as videos, daily updates from Your Shot, access to the forum for user-submitted photography, and more.

The latest version (1.4) also brings a bunch of smaller aesthetic tweaks, as well as some bug fixes.
