After almost a dozen beta releases, Agile Web Solutions decided it was time to offer the final version of 1Password 2.9.8 to its customers. The password manager and form filler is specifically designed for Mac OS X.

1Password is designed to remember all the online passwords that you insert on any web page or form, anytime, by using one single (master) countersign. It integrates directly into most browsers, and sports built-in, anti-phishing and keylogger protection. Mac owners can easily manage hundreds of passwords with one key. It supports Firefox, Camino, OmniWeb, DEVONagent, NetNewsWire, and of course, Apple's own Safari. Opera, unfortunately, isn't supported. An iPhone version of the app is also available for download via the iTunes App Store.

The most recent beta releases of the software (betas 8, 9 and 10 respectively) included between two and a maximum of four fixes, indicating that a final release of 1Password 2.9.8 was just around the corner. Not surprisingly, the stable version of 1Password 2.9.8 brings 23 changes in total, and a round dozen of much needed bug fixes.

We'll let the changelog speak for those who are interested in the full breakdown. Those eager to see some of the main enhancements delivered in the latest version of 1Password are encouraged to read on.

First off, Agile Web Solutions has improved browser extensions to better match logins to the current URL. The non-matching items are now displayed separately under 'Other Logins'. The developer has also improved the layout of the 1Password menu in the browser and renamed Bookmarks to Go & Fill Login. Fill Credit Card will now display without a submenu in the browser if there is only one credit card, while Fill Identity will now display without a submenu in the browser if there is only one identity. 1Password also loads licenses from /Library/Application Support/1Password/License folder for easier ARD installations, the changelog reveals.

What else? 1Password now displays "Fill Last Generated Password" when there are no Logins available for the current page but the password was generated, and is able to save preference changes immediately so the Autosave/Autosubmit settings in the browser are always in sync. Other changes include:

- Now using Leopard-style folder images on Mac OS X 10.5. - Replaced all remaining .Mac occurrences with MobileMe. - Removed Export All > Password Wallet. Use Export as Text File (which uses a CSV format) instead since the new version of Password Wallet can import from any CSV file. - Improved Search in Password feature to include concealed wallet values.
