"I'm just here to bring diversity to this set, to give the kind of white man's perspective," he said, as his African American co-hosts were looking at him without really knowing how to react to that.
The public was eager to discuss the issue on Twitter, where most users tried to show Gottlieb that the joke was not that funny, and some asked for his resignation.
HuffPost relays his first answer to his fans and his subsequent explanation. Gottlieb initially wrote that it was all in good fun, then realized that many viewers took offense in his words and has issued a formal apology through a network spokesperson.
