Derartu Tulu announced her withdrawal from the Caledonian Run that will take place on the 8th of May. She made the decision after consulting with her doctors, following a car crash in which she was implicated. Although the doctors said she hasn't suffered any serious injuries, the Ethiopian will not take any chances.
She
is now at her second withdrawal from an important race in the athletics calendar, after deciding not to run in the Boston Marathon less than a month ago because of a stomach complaint. Her absence from the Scottish race is more important since everyone expected that the double Olympic champion will try to win the rematch against last year's winner in Edinburgh, Latvian Jelene Prokopcuka.
The Latvian already announced her presence in the BUPA Great Caledonian Run, where she will take on important names in international athletics, like Aniko Kalovics of Hungary - bronze medalist when Edinburgh hosted the 2003 European Cross Country Championships, Jessica Augusto of Portugal and Kenyan Catherine Mutwa.
