Dota 2 is one of the most played games on Steam, and Valve makes it. The developers are now considering moving to the Source 2 engine if we're to believe the entries in the Steam database.

Data certainly looks like a nice title, but gamers need to remember that it still uses the old Source engine, which can be considered outdated. On the other hand, it's proven technology, and it makes sure that a large number of players can enjoy it. The Source 2 engine has slightly higher system requirements, although not by much. Also, the new engine should prove support for some of the new technologies like Vulkan.

The details the Source engine changes have been taken from the Steam database, and by no means is it completely certain. The Steam Database is a record of data that describes every Steam game and subscription provided by Valve for the Steam service. In any case, the changes are pretty important, and they seem to fall in line with all the other changes made by Valve.

The company is an important backer for Vulkan, and they recently showed the progress made with the OpenGL replacement by using the Dota game. It remains to be seen if the change will be done soon or if the developers are still testing the waters.
