Valve has confirmed that it's made a massive change to the Dota 2 item drop system from treasures, as players will no longer receive duplicate items when opening the chests until they complete the whole set.

Dota 2 has been around for quite some time, even if it went live for all Steam users last summer. The game is completely free to play and Valve is supporting it through a special item drop system, which sees treasure chests dropped during a game for players. These can only be opened by users if they buy a key from Valve itself, and they can then obtain some of the different items from that chest's collection or special mystery goodies.

Unfortunately, the chance to receive duplicate, low-quality items was quite high and this meant that many Dota 2 players often preferred to throw away the chests or sell them on the Steam Market for a small profit.

Now, Valve has confirmed on its official Dota 2 blog that a massive change has been made to the treasure drop system.

More specifically, players will no longer be able to receive duplicate items once they've started opening a chest type. Each time they continue to open chests, they'll receive one of the remaining items or a special surprise.

"In addition to ensuring you won’t receive the same item twice, each time you unlock a treasure you will also have a chance to obtain bonus rewards. Bonus rewards are granted in addition to an item found inside a treasure, and some treasures feature multiple bonuses. This means you could gain two or more items each time you open a treasure," Valve said.

After getting all the items within a treasure chest, the list restarts and you'll once again be able to score some of the same goodies in a new, random order.

The new system applies to all current and past treasures, which have also received a selection of new bonus items.

Valve also highlights the new Treasures of Radiant Arms and Dire Arms, which bring fresh hero sets to the game.

"Looking for the perfect treasure to pillage for non-duplicate riches? Try the new Treasures of Radiant Arms and Dire Arms. Each unseals to reveal an entire hero set, which include the first sets made available for Lifestealer and Puck. Opening either treasure also gives you a chance to find the Vestments of the Fallen Princess, the first set for Vengeful Spirit, as a bonus reward," the studio added.

The new Dota 2 item system is already live for the game on Steam.
