What seemed like a lofty goal several weeks ago has just been achieved, as the Dota 2 community has managed upgrade the prize pool of the upcoming The International 4 competition to a whopping 10 million USD (or 7.3 million EUR) by purchasing the in-game compendium.

Dota 2 is a global phenomenon, as Valve's multiplayer online battle arena game has millions of loyal fans around the world that engage in the free-to-play experience and, most importantly, spend quite a lot of money on cosmetic items for their favorite heroes.

For The International 4, Valve's traditional yearly competition, the studio has once again offered 1.6 million USD (1.17 million EUR) of its own money as the prize. It also allowed fans of the game to buy a special digital compendium containing data about the players participating in the event, not to mention various other hidden rewards and bonuses.

25% of the compendium's cost goes to the prize pool and 75% to Valve, but this hasn't stopped the total prize from reaching a whopping $10 million (€7.3 million).

Valve added plenty of unlockable stretch goals for various amounts and now all of them have been completed.

Considering that The International 4 takes place between July 17 and 21, you can bet that the prize pool will continue to grow and Valve will have to add more stretch goals to keep the community hyped.
