The prize pool for the upcoming Dota 2 The International 2015 competition has reached a whopping $11 million (around €9.8 million), and considering there are about 65 more days until the actual eSports tournament begins, the sky's the limit.

Dota 2 is a true global phenomenon, with tens of millions of people embarking on Valve's multiplayer online battle arena experience every month. While the title is free-to-play and doesn't put any limits on the huge roster of 100+ playable characters, the developer makes a lot of money through cosmetic items and other virtual goods.

The International 2015 Dota 2 prize pool has reached a new record

After having broken eSports records last year with The International 2014 tournament, Valve started promoting the 2015 edition a little while ago, by selling the digital compendium, which includes all sorts of goodies for Dota 2 players. From the $10/€ price, 25% is donated to the prize pool of the competition.

After having released several rewards and having shared even more benefits for owners of the Dota 2 The International 2015 compendium, the prize pool has surpassed the $11 million (€9.8 million) milestone, according to the official website.

This overtakes the record set by last year's event and marks another great achievement for eSports overall, as no other title has managed to offer this kind of money.

Considering there are two more months separating us from the beginning of The International 2015, as it kicks off in August, it's a safe bet that many more millions will be added to the prize pool. What's more, another set of long-awaited Immortal-quality items are set to be released in the near future by Blizzard, alongside many other digital items exclusive to those who got The International 2015 compendium.

Look forward to hearing more about the record-breaking figures of the next big Dota 2 tournament in the following months, as we get closer to the debut of The International 2015 at the end of summer.
