14 DAY TRIAL // A brand new patch has just been revealed by Valve for its hugely popular Dota 2 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title, in the form of the Shifting Snows update, which brings forth not just a winter-themed version of the game's map but also many different gameplay changes as part of patch 6.83.
Dota 2 is among the most popular free-to-play experiences out there, delighting tens of millions of people from all over the world each month. In order to keep players happy, Valve has rolled out a variety of special patches and updates for the game over the years, and after confirming that it's not going to run the traditional Frostivus event, fans were upset with the studio.
The Shifting Snows update brings changes
Now, in order to still make it feel like the winter holidays are in Dota 2, Valve confirms on its website that the Shifting Snows update is coming soon to the popular game.
As you can tell by its name, the patch brings forth a winter-themed modification to the Dota 2 map, plenty of special content, such as ice heroic effigies, not to mention special treasures and much more.
"Light dwindles and cold creeps in. The Shifting Snows Update has arrived, bringing with it this year’s Winter Map as well as a small gameplay update. As heroes shiver down the lanes to meet their fate, a new effigy material has emerged from the ice, new treasures have brought new armor to warm by the fire, and the arrival of Gift Wrap heralds the season of Givening," the studio explains.
The map now features ice on its river and a variety of other effects, and you can even spot a Santa hat on Roshan, not to mention a small Christmas tree that decorates the entry to his cave.
Gameplay update 6.83 is also included
Among the biggest features in the patch is the inclusion of gameplay update 6.83, which brings quite a lot of different changes to most of the heroes available in the popular game, from Sniper to Lifestealer, Rikki, Bounty Hunter, and much more.
Those who got on the podium in Fantasy Dota Season 2 will also receive with the update a special teleport effect and a trophy that highlights their performances.
The new Shifting Snows update for Dota 2 is expected to drop next week for the game, probably in the first few days before the winter holidays start in earnest.
