Winning teams won't be penalized that much for losing fights

Dota 2 has just received a brand new update over the weekend in the form of patch 6.82b, which comes to tweak some of the new formulas and elements introduced by the major update 6.82 when it appeared last week, particularly when it comes to rewards for gold, XP, and kill streak bounties when defeating an enemy hero.

Dota 2 has been around for some time now and developer Valve has made plenty of major changes using certain updates that tweaked core gameplay mechanics, not to mention the 100+ heroes that are inside the game right now.

The latest in the series of major patches was update 6.82, titled Rekindling, which brought major tweaks to heroes like Shadow Fiend, Bloodseeker, or Phantom Lancer and also smaller balance changes to the rest of the hero lineup and to big elements of the game, like the map.

Patch 6.82 also changed some reward formulas

Besides these upfront changes, a few behind the scenes modifications were made with the patch by Valve, particularly when it came to rewarding heroes for killing other heroes. The formulas used to govern the amount of gold and XP they got were changed so that players on the losing team would get more XP and gold for taking out those on the winning team and help foster comebacks.

While the result was that games became much more exciting, many regular and professional players started complaining about being punished way too severely if you made mistakes and were on the winning team.

For example, a hero who had a kill streak of several enemies and was on the winning team would give, in some cases, even 2,000 gold and lots of XP to an opponent who managed to kill him, easily turning the tide of the whole game.

Valve has listened and the formulas have been tweaked

It seems that Valve has listened to this feedback and adequately tweaked the amount of gold and XP offered to heroes when killing someone, as well as how much of an impact kill streak bounties have on the end sum.

While the formulas and comparisons to previous versions are available on the official website, in layman's terms, players on the losing team will still get a bit more gold than in patch 6.81, but not as much as in the original 6.82 update. Assists, when more heroes contribute to a kill, will remain mostly the same, in order to encourage team fights and cooperation.

The new patch is already live and available for download via Steam.
