Valve has revealed even more details about the major update 6.82 for Dota 2, this time chronicling the changes made to the damage types in the game as well as the transformation of magic immunity into spell immunity, while tweaking just how it works in the game.

Dota 2 currently delights tens of millions of players from all around the world each month, as they all are hooked on the competitive experience offered by the multiplayer online battle arena title from Valve.

Many of them eagerly await the updates offered by the studio, but not even the most optimistic ones had hoped for the huge amount of changes that are included in patch 6.82, which is set to debut in the very near future.

Damage types have been overhauled

Some smaller but crucial changes made to the game in the new update affect damage types, as well as the spell immunity, which takes over from the regular magic immunity, according to the official website.

The new main damage types are Physical, Magical, and Pure, while Composite is no longer employed by any hero attacks.

Physical damage gets absorbed by physical armor, magical damage can be lessened by magical damage resistance, while pure damage can't be stopped or affected by any of those two things.

Magic Immunity is now called Spell Immunity

Valve is also going to overhaul the old Magic Immunity mechanic, replacing it with Spell Immunity, which handles in a different way what attacks are directed towards a hero and how special items, like the Black King Bar, work.

"Magic Immunity has now been renamed to Spell Immunity. Spell Immunity only defines if Spells interact with it, not how damage itself is handled. This means that on its own Spell Immunity status does not reduce any damage," Valve explains.

"Black King Bar, Repel, Rage and all other previous forms of "Magic Immunity" now grant Spell Immunity status and a 100% Magic Resistance bonus."

While Valve emphasizes that these changes won't have that big of an impact on regular gameplay, it will change the way items or abilities with both pure damage and spell immunity exception behave, as their damage will still go through.

The HP Removal effect is no longer considered a damage type, as it's now just an alternative cost to Mana for some spells or items, such as Armlet.

Due to these changes, plenty of hero abilities and skills are going to be tweaked by the new update 6.82 for Dota 2 when it eventually launches on Steam.
