Valve has just confirmed that it's going to release a huge update called Spring Cleaning for Dota 2, taking the game up to version 6.81 and bringing major changes to the interface, inventory, heroes, items, and abilities.

Dota 2 is one of the most popular free-to-play online titles out there, capturing the hearts and minds of millions of multiplayer online battle arena fans on the PC, Mac, and Linux platforms.

The game is getting ready to see The International event take place this summer, and until then Valve has just confirmed that a major patch will go live next week, according to the official website, in the form of the Spring Cleaning update.

A huge amount of major changes are included in it, starting with improvements to the interface, such as an overhauled settings menu, better matchmaking, easier sorting of tournaments in the Watch tab, but also improvements inside the actual game, like better effects for heroes, their death, and their gear.

The inventory has been tweaked extensively, with players being able to press Alt and then Click on an inventory item or passive abilities to alert his teammates that it's ready, on cooldown, or requires more mana. The Quick Buy system shows stock cooldown time for items that aren't in stock, while the purchase hot key buys the first eligible item.

Two brand new treasures will be available for purchase inside the game once the major update goes live and they don't require seals to unlock.

"Two new treasures have been added (Treasure of Sinister Arcanery and Treasure of the Cosmic Abyss) that contain brand new sets with a rare chance to grant a new courier or a new Clockwork set. However, unlike previous treasures, no seal or treasure drop is required. These treasures are purchased directly from the Dota 2 Store or from inside the Dota 2 client. Once yours, all you need to do is open them up to receive one of the sets. The treasures can also be traded and listed on the Steam Community Market."

Besides these improvements, a huge amount of bug fixes have been added to the game, solving issues with the interface, the audio or visual effects, but also plenty of gameplay problems.

Practically all the heroes in Dota 2 have been tweaked in the new update, many with small changes to some of their abilities, but also quite a few items have also been balanced by Valve.

The Spring Cleaning update 6.81 for Dota 2 is set to appear via Steam next week, but a release date hasn't been offered.
