It's a common fact that the CTIA Wireless trade show is an opportunity for mobile phone makers, wireless carriers, software developers and infrastructure providers to show their latest advancements in the telecom area, and we already reported on some of the new technologies or devices that were to be demonstrated at this year’s conference.

Yet, while the main focus remains on the higher-end segment of the market, there are things that happen in the mainstream and lower-end areas as well. And one of the facts that are worth mentioning is connected to the availability of simple cell phones on the United States market, for we must agree that there are consumers who only need simple features inside their handsets.

Swedish mobile phone manufacturer Doro came to the CTIA Wireless 2009 show in Las Vegas with its lineup of such simple handsets, aimed at those who are in need of such devices and don't fancy the rather sophisticated ones that have “invaded” the market.

The mobile phones that have been showcased in Doro's booth are meant to be easy-to-use communication devices, and include the Doro HandlePlus 326i handset, which comes as a simple voice phone that includes a large keypad and four speed dial buttons. In addition, the company also has a more advanced version of the device, one that includes SMS capabilities, as well as a simpler model that only features speed dial.

Interestingly enough, the Doro handsets are rather hard to find, due to the fact that they are not available with the major cell phone carriers in the country. Even so, the HandlePlus 326i is able to offer connectivity with AT&T or T-Mobile's networks, and is available for purchase through a store named Independent Living, for only $169.95. At the same time, the handset is also offered by the small wireless carrier Centennial Wireless, which provides network coverage over parts of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi. The Doro HandleEasy 330, the SMS-capable model, is available with the carrier for $39.99 with a contract.
