The Dorifel malware, which hit the Netherlands this summer, is said to have affected at least 30 organizations, including businesses, educational institutions and municipalities.

According to the Minister of Security and Justice Ivo Opstelten – cited by automatiseringgids.nl -, the damages caused by the computer virus are estimated at around 10,000 - 50,000 EUR ($13,000 – $64,000).

However, this amount represents only the cost of research, mitigation, and the restoration of infected files. The direct losses are unknown for the time being, but Dutch officials believe they can be high, especially for businesses.

The country’s National Cyber Security Center has already taken down several domain names utilized by the botnet. Furthermore, a number of 10 command and control server takedown requests have been sent to authorities in Austria, Russia, Vietnam and the United States.
