May 21 has passed, and what remains behind is a slew of suicides around the world

It's always funny to hear Christians make prophetic claims about the end of the world, but there is a point when this stops being amusing to anyone. That point is reached when people die. As a result of the most recent claims, that the world will end on May 21, several people around the world died.

There was an instance in which Lyn Benedetto, a woman from California, slit the throat of her two daughters, who are 14 and 11, and then tried to kill herself. She was convinced that the horrors of the apocalypse would be unleashed, and that they would be too much for her and her family.

Luckily, all survived after the police arrived at the scene. But a man in Taiwan was not as lucky. He jumped off the roof of a building, convinced that the world was coming to an end that very day.

Around the world, there were numerous other reported instances of suicides generated by the latest end-of-the-world prophecy, which was perpetrated by 89-year-old Harold Camping. This American Christian radio broadcaster is the president of Family Radio.

His network spreads across 150 markets in the United States, and reaches millions around the world. He somehow managed to convince everyone that his interpretation of the Bible predicted the Rapture.

This is not the first time this manipulator predicted the end of the world either. He did so for May 21, 1988, and September 7, 1994, and guess what? We're still here. All jokes aside, the fact that this farce of a man is allowed to spread his lies still is a sign of how skewed modern society has become.

Some Christians leader have developed an insidious way of taking advantage of the American Constitution, protecting themselves under the guises of the First Amendment to spread fear and lies, which are unbacked by any real evidence.

Maybe it would be better that a God does exist, so that people like Harold Camping could get punished in the afterlife for the crimes he's committed, because he's surely not gonna get punished here on Earth.

The responsibility for the deaths that happened around the world rests squarely on his shoulders, and on those of his minions. The latter spread panic in the days before May 21, urging people to repent and give up their possessions in the process.

It's the opinion of most sane people that doomsday predictions should not be tolerated. This is the time to act, since 2012 is coming along, and the New Age movement is going to have a blast. Given the multitude of predictions for how the world will end then, numerous suicides are expected to happen.

As long as society keeps tolerating these lunatics, there will always be people who believe so strongly in what is being preached to them that they are willing to follow the preacher to the death. No one should be allowed to take advantage of this group in this manner.
