Bethesda and id Software officially showcased the new Doom reboot to QuakeCon 2014 attendants yesterday, and now the first details have started appearing online from those who witnessed the exclusive event.

For quite some time, a new Doom game has been in different stages of development at id Software but only recently did the work on the game begin in full force and without any of the rumored problems that have been plaguing the studio for a while.

Bethesda confirmed a few weeks ago that the new Doom title would get detailed at QuakeCon 2014 this week and now the first actual details have appeared online.

First up, according to PCGamer, the new title is called simply Doom and represents an origin story that reimagines everything about the franchise. It's going to begin just outside of a massive research facility on the surface of Mars and players are in for quite a few intense adventures on the red planet, not just in the factory but also in its caves.

Doom uses the brand new id Tech 6 engine and is intended to run at a native 1080p resolution and a 60fps framerate, although actual platforms are unclear. The live gameplay demonstration ran on a powerful PC and used an Xbox controller.

The id team worked hard on making sure the combat performed as intended and there will be quite a few classic enemies making a comeback, such as demons, mechanicals, corrupt, or hell knights. The guns feature a lot of traditional ones, include double-barrel shotguns.

The core experience is a high-speed run and gun shooter, although there will be sequences of hand-to-hand combat. Stunning enemies is possible, which then allows you to follow up with a boot kick to the face.

Of course, gore and violence are quite present in the new game, and at a certain point the protagonist tears off a corpse's hand to activate a palm scanner. Automatic health regeneration isn't possible, as enemies drop health when players kill them.

Classic shooter staples like exploding barrels, varied enemies, and plenty of violent finishing moves are also set to be included in the new Doom game. Just like in Wolfenstein: The New Order, a weapon wheel is going to be used so that players can cycle between their arsenal of guns.

While the QuakeCon 2014 demo focused on single-player, Bethesda and id Software promised to talk about a fast-paced competitive multiplayer at a later point in time.
