Bethesda has announced that the Doom beta offered as a pre-order incentive for the upcoming first-person shooter Wolfenstein: The New Order will only be available on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be the ninth game in the Wolfenstein series, and the only one that will not have the id Software label, although its developers at MachineGames utilized id's proprietary game engine to make the game.

Access to the beta is gained by pre-ordering the re-imagined Wolfenstein, and those who do so for the Xbox platforms will receive beta access to the Xbox One version of the beta, those who pre-order for PlayStation consoles will receive PlayStation 4 beta access, and those who order it for PC will be granted Doom beta access on the PC.

That means that players will not be able to specify what platform they want to play the Doom beta on, so be careful which version you get, if you plan on pre-ordering.

Additionally, an Xbox Live Gold membership is required in order to get into the Xbox One beta, while a PS Plus subscription is not a requirement for the PlayStation 4 one.

The company has revealed that the key code will be located on an insert included inside the boxed copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, when it releases on May 20. Once the key code is redeemed, players will be registered to participate in the Doom beta, once it begins.

Bethesda has stated that it's closely working with Steam, Microsoft and Sony in order to ensure that digital pre-order customers will also be able to access the Doom beta without any problems.

"Although you'll receive the Doom beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the Doom beta won't begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the DOOM beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process," the official FAQ said.

The company has not revealed whether there will be an open beta test for Doom, stating that the timing and availability of future beta programs is yet to be determined, and currently the only way to guarantee access to the beta is to pre-order Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Bethesda has decided to fuse the European, Australian and North American releases, and as such, Wolfenstein: The New Order will come out globally on Tuesday, May 20, for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms.
