Just out of the blue, id Software has announced having started to work on another Doom title and used the occasion to post some job ads, too. Not the most exciting way to announce a sequel for one of the most important and beloved games in history, but somewhat understandable, having in mind the quality and overall reception of Doom 3. However, it seems that the developers want to prove that the franchise is not dead and they will probably keep trying until they succeed. Hopefully, this Doom 4 will be the great hit - I'm sure none of the gamers out there would mind.

Even though no details have been given, it is most likely that we will see another first person shooter (FPS), like all the other games in the series. This time, however, we'll probably receive Doom on Playstation 3 consoles, too, as well as Xbox 360s and PCs - we dare to say that following the job ad posted on the website and the fact that id Software has said in the past that it would love to create games for the next-gen consoles, too. Also, if you remember the fact that Doom 3 was released on the Xbox, you probably know that they won't get back to PC exclusivity anymore.

"DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles."

So, let's hope that their DNA won't fail this time, too and we will really get a game able to rise up to its fame: one of the most influential games of all times and one of the most beloved franchises ever. Oh, please, id Software, do it right this time!
