The source code of the famous Doom 3 FPS game is now available, starting today November 23rd, under the GNU GPL (GNU Public License) Version 3 license.

After having numerous legal troubles releasing the Doom 3 game under an open source license, John Carmack, one of the founders of id Software, announced a few hours ago that the source code for Doom 3 has been open sourced under the GPL v3 license.

The Doom 3 source code is available since this morning on GitHub (follow the link below) and everyone hopes that more free and open source games will be based on it in the near future.

Doom 3 is a Sci-Fi horror video game created by id Software and published by Activision. It's a first-person shooter game, released for the Microsoft Windows platform on August 3, 2004 and later adapted for Linux, as well as being ported for Mac OS X.

Download the Doom 3 source code right now from Softpedia.

"Doom 3 Game Has Been Open Sourced". Well. No. It hasn't. What you think of as the game is still protected. Doom3s Engine (idtech4) as been opensourced.
