Developer id Software has talked about its upcoming Doom 3: BFG Edition, which will be released this October, confirming some of the more discrete improvements made to the cult classic shooter ahead of its release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Doom 3 delivered an intense and atmospheric shooter experience on the PC many years ago and now, thanks to the upcoming BFG Edition, it’s getting ready to reappear on the PC while making a debut on the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

[admark=1]We already know that it’s going to be remastered in high definition but its Producer, Eric Webb, has just talked about what makes the BFG Edition so special.

“I think the game feels fresh,” he said.

“It was very modern and very aggressive, and you had to have a very high end PC to run it back in the day whereas now it’s running happily on PS3 in 720p high resolution. It’s really the best conversion we could have done for the game, I’m confident to say. It has good gameplay, good art, good style. It just lasts.”

Plenty of improvements have been made by id to the original game, from better textures to an overhauled multiplayer experience, not to mention the Lost Mission pack, which adds more single-player stages to the story.

“We’re making textural improvements to the characters and demons. We’ve completely rewritten the network code so that multiplayer is a better experience,” Webb continued.

“In addition there’s also the Lost Mission Pack, containing seven new levels. They pick up from a certain part of the story line in the main game – without giving too much away, it’ll all make sense when you play it. You’re a different guy in a different part of the base but it’s the same world,” he added.

Doom 3: BFG Edition is out this October for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
