A Messenger account is required in order to play it

It looks like previous rumors claiming Facebook plans to introduce games into its Messenger platform were true after all, as the first game has just been published in Google Play Store and App Store.

Facebook plans to offer consumers a wider range of experiences, including utilities and games, and Doodle Draw is the first title from a (probably) long list of games that the social network company has in the pipeline.

“Currently, we think Messenger Platform is best suited for apps that focus on content creation and curated content. But one of the reasons we were excited to announce at F8 that Messenger Platform is open to all developers is to see what people build. From there, we’ll think about what else might make sense,” Facebook tells TechCrunch.

Doodle Draw is available for free and those who have played Draw Something before will recognize the gameplay mechanics, which are astoundingly the same. For those out of the loop, here is a short description of the game:

“Draw something awesome, share with friends, and see if they can guess what your drawing is in Doodle Draw!”

In Doodle Draw players will be able to pick from a word list and earn coins that can be spent on more colors. You can also watch replays of your friends' guesses, as well as manage your ongoing games from the home screen.

Get it from Google Play, App Store or directly from Messenger

You can now download Doodle Draw for Android for free via Google Play store. The game should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.

For iOS users, Doodle Draw is available for download via App Store. It should work smoothly on all devices running iOS 6.0 or later.

It's also worth mentioning that the game requires a Messenger account so you can play it. Also, you can download it directly from within Facebook Messenger app by tapping the “...” button in a chat thread.
