Donald Trump has zero sense of humor: he’s threatening to sue comedian Bill Maher after he failed to donate the $5 million (€3.7 million) he promised if he (Trump) could prove that he’d not been fathered by an orangutan.
The controversy began in early January, when Maher poked fun at Trump’s habit of asking for birth certificates from public figures in exchange for donations to charity, also known as the “birther movement.”
He even said that he would donate money as well, if Trump went public with his birth certificate and thus put to rest rumors that he’d been fathered by an orangutan.
Little did Maher expect Trump to do just that – and, now that he’s done it, the real estate mogul is still waiting for his donation.
After politely asking the comedian to keep his word and directing him to the organizations he’d like to receive the money, The Donald is going to war, according to a statement cited by the Daily Mail.
“I don’t know whether I will win or lose the Bill Maher lawsuit but I had an obligation to sue for charity. He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information,” Trump says.
“Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity,” he explains.
As for the excuse that Maher was just joking, The Donald doesn’t buy it: that was a promise he made, not a joke.
“I don't think he was joking. He said it with venom. That was venom. That wasn't a joke. In fact, he was nervous when he said it; it was a pathetic delivery. But he said, ‘I will give,’ and I said, ‘I will accept’,” he explains.
Since he made the joke / promise, Maher has refused to comment on the media storm he more or less caused. He’s yet to respond to Trump’s threat about suing him.
