All the people who have been asking for a portable edition of Klei Entertainment’s quirky survival game can finally rejoice, as their demand has been heard: Don’t Starve: Giant Edition is making its way to the PlayStation Vita handheld gaming console.

You can’t help Don’t Starve: Giant Edition sounding a bit ironic considering it’s headed for Sony’s portable, but that doesn’t mean it’s a mockery, no way. In fact, it’s coming with the original version of Don’t Starve along with all the updates that have been released for the PC and PlayStation 4 versions, including the Reign of Giants expansion.

Since the game’s debut on Sony’s next gen computer entertainment system, the PlayStation 4, a lot of people have been expressing their desire to play Don’t Starve on the go on their Vita. The developer is now determined to make this happen, but for now they can’t really out a prospective release date.

Don’t Starve: Giant Edition will deliver the exact same experience it does on the bigger platforms, complete with the multi-leveled caves and the discoverable Adventure mode that challenges players’ survival skills with multiple randomly-generated worlds.

PlayStation Vita owners will be able to play the game with the original nine characters, as well as the two new ones introduced with the Reign of Giants expansion, as the devs reveal on the PlayStation Blog.

In case you’re not up to speed with Don’t Starve’s expansions, the two new characters are Webber, a young lad who’s living inside the spider that tried to eat him a long time ago, and Wigfrid, an actress that is devoted to her trade and went a little overboard while portraying an ancient Valkyrie.

The Reign of Giants expansions also adds a ton of seasonal challenges, including the unforgiving heat of summer and spring’s torrential showers, as well as new, procedurally-generated biomes full of new creatures and items to collect, but the greatest addition is the introduction of the towering giant monsters.

Furthermore, Klei Entertainment is working on optimizing the game in order to take advantage of the PlayStation Vita’s unique touch features, by making all navigation through menus, maps, items and crafting touch friendly, while also allowing the use of classic button navigation.

The development team is also currently working on bringing the Reign of Giants expansion to the PlayStation 4 version of Don’t Starve sometime in the near future. The PlayStation Vita version will still take a while to drop, but we’ll keep an eye out in the following months.
