The developer is investigating a crash on startup for certain users

Plex iOS users are being urged by the app’s developers not to install the latest update, as it can crash in certain conditions. Apple is strangely keeping the Plex app live on the App Store, even though its own creators have confirmed it has issues.

Plex streams your music, videos and photos from your home computers running Plex Media Server, and allows you to access content from apps like Aperture, iTunes and iPhoto, or online services like YouTube, and Vimeo. It also comes with a cool remote control function for users of Plex Media Center.

Thanks to a recent update, Plex on iOS can do even more. Version 3.1 delivers enhanced filtering, a Mobile Media Server, push notifications, a universal (yet experimental) transcoder, and tons of bug fixes and other enhancements.

But don’t jump to the download just yet. Here’s what Plex Inc. has to say about their exciting new release.

“PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE! We are investigating a crash on startup for certain users.”

Well, that certainly takes the edge off. And what’s up with Apple allowing flawed apps to live on iTunes? Suppose I didn’t go through the changelog and simply hit update on my iPhone. What then?
