Sources inside Microsoft are claiming that Don Mattrick, the executive who led the development effort for the new Xbox One, has chosen to leave the company because he lacked any clear perspectives for promotion.

Fast Company cites anonymous employees who are saying that a planned reorganization would have seen Mattrick become the leader of a hardware division while he expected a bigger role in the near future.

His ambitious nature made the job offer from Zynga, where he was asked to serve as chief executive officer, more attractive.

Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft, has praised the work that Mattrick has done on the Xbox One.

The new Zynga leader says that the company has great potential to continue to make gaming mainstream and to dominate the social and mobile spaces.

Zynga's stock has been on an upward trend since the announcement was made.
