Only recently, a Bottlenose dolphin was shot dead near the coast of Lousiana. Authorities explain that the animal had a gun wound just behind its blowhole, and that further research revealed that the bullet made it all the way into its lung.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), together with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS), now offers a $1,500 (€1,165) reward to anyone who can lend a helping hand in catching the culprits and bringing them to justice.

One of WDCS's members told the press that, “These dolphins continue to face impacts from the Gulf oil spill, fishing gear entanglements and habitat loss.”

Therefore, “It is extremely disturbing that they are also subjected to brutal attacks and vandalism from the public.”

To make matters even worse, it has not been long since someone decided to take a screwdriver and use it to stab a dolphin inhabiting these waters in the head.

Apparently, most of these dolphins are killed by fishermen who do not approve of the animals' habit of feeding on hooked fish.
