“My goddaughter is just trying to find her own place”

With all the controversy Miley started, people stopped paying attention to her music and only focused on her indecent behavior. But, even through all the twerking and the tongue-sticking, Miley still has one important person by her side, her godmother, legendary country music star Dolly Parton.

As she sees it, what Miley is doing is part of growing up so people really shouldn’t be this harsh on her. We’ve all been through a similar stage, just not as publicly as Miley.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, Dolly says, “It's not easy being young. It's hard to know what to do. You've almost got to sacrifice your damn soul just to get anything done.”

Coming to protect her goddaughter from the critics, Dolly insists that Miley is “just trying to find her own place and wings and learn to fly.”

Close friend of the Cyrus family, Parton insists Miley is very smart and knows very well what she is doing. The country icon even stresses that Miley has planned this sudden change in image, and says people should just back off and let her do her thing.

If you recall, Miley too has been saying in recent interviews that this was part of a larger scheme meant to shock people into paying attention to her, and not the first sign of her going off the rails, as some have speculated.

When it comes to career advice, Dolly says she doesn't need to give Miley any right now but, should the occasion appear, she will gladly offer whatever counseling the young pop star might need.

On a more professional note, Dolly admits that she would love to hear Miley sing her songs and that she would also love to do some duets with her because she is “ so gifted.” Honestly, no one is denying Miley's talent, it's just the way she is marketing herself that raises questions.

Between confronting the critics and acknowledging Miley's talent, Dolly was also announcing a series of UK dates for her European tour. Next year's tour could be the last time she performs in London.

“I never know when I’m going to stop doing the touring part. And I thought, ‘Well, I’m gonna go on back because it may be a long, long time before I get the chance to again’,” she says.

Dolly Parton will be performing in London at the O2 Arena on June 27 and 28.
