Dollar General’s success as a retailer has made fraudsters rely on the company’s name and reputation to launch their malicious campaigns which fill their pockets with cash from affiliate shady marketing websites.

A Facebook message that promises $50 (35 EUR) Dollar General gift cards may be seen these days flooding walls, Hoax Slayer reports.

“Get $50 Dollar General gift card for FREE! (limited time only), Dollar General is currently giving away free gift cards to all Facebook users!” reads the scam post.

In reality, those who click the links are taken to survey websites that promise more fabulous prizes, but in the end no one ever gets anything.

Users who encounter Dollar General offers that don’t point to their official Facebook page or their website are advised to ignore them.

If you’ve already been duped into sharing such a scam on your Facebook wall, delete the phony advertisement before any of your friends fall for it.
