Doherty in Court on Cocaine Charges

Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty is appearing in court charged with possession of cocaine and heroin.

The 26-year-old singer, whose on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss has seen him hit the headlines, was arrested on November 30.

He was formally charged on Monday under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act for possession of the class A drugs and was appearing at Ealing Magistrates Court in west London.

A Scotland Yard police spokeswoman refused to comment on reports that Doherty had invited his fans to join him in court while fronting a live gig in London on Monday. "If there is an incident, then we will deal with it accordingly," she said.

Babyshambles have a gig lined up on Wednesday night in Stoke-on-Trent. The band played at the Koko club in Camden, north London, on Monday and was due on stage in Sheffield on Tuesday night.
