Yesterday morning, the rocker best known for his drug addiction rather than for his music, attended the court hearing that is to seal his fate, figuratively speaking, of course. The ashen-faced and unkempt Pete Doherty displayed an amazing sense of reality as he pleaded guilty before the judge on all seven counts of possession of A-listed drugs.
Doherty admitted to possessing cocaine, heroin, crack and cannabis, which police found in considerable quantities in his car a few days ago. After that, he was released on bail but he still has to submit, until the next hearing (September 4th) to a couple of very strict conditions.
Basically, District Judge Alison Rose ordered the junkie to attend the Priory Clinic in Southgate, London, where he is to undergo a most severe rehabilitation program. Furthermore, he has to keep a nightly curfew of 10 P.M to 8 A.M until the case is being closed. The only exception to the curfew will be made next week, when he is to perform at the Get Loaded Festival, which will be held on Clapham Common.
In Pete's defense, his lawyer stated to the court: 'It will not surprise anyone in the court that he is a drug addict with an entrenched problem. It's clear he is a very talented musician. Unfortunately, the chaotic world that accompanies that has led to some of his downfall. He has only hurt himself by his drug addiction. He is in a position that he can fund it without criminal activity'.
But the judge was impressed neither by the lawyer's plea nor by the rocker's remorseful look and she warned him that the next sentence he gets might not be as easy-going as the previous ones. She said that all options are open for her in this case and that the court's sentence 'most definitely includes the possibility of custody'.
