Hours after escaping serious jail time for possession of class A narcotics, thanks to a new record contract, Pete Doherty, the leading man of the Babyshambles is again in all the newspapers, now with his name being connected to the suspicious death of a 30-year-old actor.
In order to celebrate his not doing any time (for the gazillionth time!) Pete hit the party circuit and went to a house party hosted by his acquaintance Paul Roundhill. There, he also met other druggie friends and someone who wasn't quite one of his favorites, an unknown actor named Mark Blanco.
After a couple of drinks (and maybe a bit of other 'substances'), Pete got into a really huge fight with Blanco, that soon enough turned more violent. The British 'The Sun' writes: 'Blanco arrived at Paul's a little drunk. He and Pete started to niggle each other. It turned into a full blown argument, with insults being thrown on both sides. The argument got physical and Roundhill stepped in to break it up. He then asked Blanco to leave.'
Doherty did not wait for his less famous rival to depart, took his coat and ran off. A few minutes later, a couple of people came up, telling the host of the party that there was a dead man on the pavement and that they suspected he had fallen off his balcony.
The police arrived immediately at the scene, but Doherty, the last man who allegedly saw Blanco, was nowhere to be found. According to the British media, he was back in his hotel room at the Malmaison Hotel, where the trashed the whole place, leaving blood and traces of drugs all over.
Police officers are now looking for the troubled rocker to speak to him about Blanco and what they were fighting about. Until now, he is not considered a suspect or as having anything to do with the tragic incident. Blanco's death is being treated as 'unexplained' but Pete will have to answer to a couple of questions.
