Developers did not have time to include everything they wanted

Saints Row: The Third is now out and it seems that the development team at Volition is ready to get working on extra content for it and on a fourth installment in the series, but not before taking a look back at how the game evolved and what more it could have offered.

Speaking about how the game was received to VG247 Scott Phillips, who is the lead designer working on Saints Row: The Third, stated, “If I was going to review the game, I think I’d give it a nine. I think it’s got issues, but I think in the overall scheme of things, I think what we delivered is an awesome package. Everybody has their own opinion, I think certain people focused on certain things more than I or other reviewers would have.”

He went on to say that he appreciates the opinion of all reviewers, even those who awarded the game a lower score, as long as they understand how the game builds on its mechanics in order to deliver fun for all players.

Phillips also revealed that the development team at Volition was aiming to include much more content in the game but was forced to cut a lot of it off because of time concerns.

The developer said, “I would say my personal thing I always stick with for lost features was having dogs in the game. We had enemy dogs for maybe a week. They were working, they were a pretty fun prototype. But in the end, we didn’t have the program or animation time to make it happen. I think they would have been a great enemy and a great addition to the game.”

THQ and Volition have said that they have downloadable content plans for Saints Row: The Third but it's not clear whether they include dogs.
