An actual spacesuit dating back to the 1950s will soon be sold at an auction organized in the city of Berlin in Germany. With a little bit of luck, it is this coming September 13 that the suit will find a new owner.

Now don't go emptying your closets looking to make room for this piece of history just yet. The spacesuit, which sells with an oxygen supply tube, is not intended for people, but for dogs.

In fact, word has it that it was worn by space dogs Belka and Strelka while undergoing training for the USSR's Korabl-Sputnik 2 mission. This is yet to be confirmed, so do take this piece of information with a grain of salt.

According to Daily Mail, the suit can be altered to match the size of the dog wearing it. As detailed in the auction catalog, “The dog space suit can be adjusted to the size of the dog at body and legs with strings. There is a ring in the front for the helmet’s insertion.”

Furthermore, “The tube for the oxygen supply runs along the lower side of the suit. The suit was made by RSC Energia, the largest Russian manufacturer of spacecraft and space station components.”

The spacesuit is expected to sell for about €8,000 (roughly $6,091). Unfortunately, it looks like it does not come complete with a rocket or some other Soviet spacecraft.
