A 2-year-old pooch that goes by the name Ace is now hailed as a hero after saving a deaf 13-year-old boy from a house fire and being just the right kind of cool not to make a big deal about it afterwards.

Information shared with the public says that the incident occurred earlier this week, on Wednesday afternoon, in the city of Indianapolis, United States. At that time, the boy was home alone.

According to Indy Star, 13-year-old Nick Lamb usually wears cochlear implants. However, when the fire broke, he was not using his hearing aids. On the contrary, he was sleeping in his room.

For the time being, it is unclear how and why the fire started. However, officials say that, had it not been for his 2-year-old pit bull Ace, the young boy would have probably lost his life in this incident.

Nick Lamb remembers that, just as he was enjoying his afternoon nap, the pooch jumped him and started licking his face. The 13-year-old had no choice but to wake up, and soon enough figured out that something was wrong.

Almost immediately after waking up from his slumber, Nick smelled smoke and realized that his home was on fire. Looking to save himself, the boy covered his face and his mouth and ran out of the house. Ace accompanied him.

Having left the house, the 13-year-old boy called 911 and also contacted his mother and told her about the fire. Firefighters who reported to Nick Lamb's home remember that, when they arrived in the area, flames were smoothing from the family's garage.

The firefighters too agree that 2-year-old Ace saved Nick Lamb's life, and that, had the young boy been completely alone, he might not have woken up in time to save himself. Needless to say, this makes the pit bull a hero through and through.

“He was thankful that Ace entered his room and licked his face until he woke up. The boy quickly covered his nose and mouth with his T-shirt and exited the rear of the house,” the Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Reith said in a statement.

“I couldn't hear anything because I had my cochlear implants off. My dog Ace smelled it. I just wanted to get out,” 13-year-old Nick Lamb told the press in an interview. In case anyone was wondering, both the kid and the pooch are in good health.

An investigation into this incident is still ongoing. Specialists suspect the fire, which caused damage amounting to $175,000 (€129,177) originated in the family's garage and was caused by some faulty electrical wires.
