The people at About.com have launched a voting session, asking users around the world to vote their favorite instant messaging client as well as the most improved instant messenger and other several sections. Obviously, Yahoo Messenger, one of the most popular application of this kind, is placed among the favorites to win the competition, currently being placed on the 3rd position. Digsby leads the "Best Instant Messenger Experience" while Meebo, the service that lets you talk with your friends on multiple networks straight from your browser, comes the second.

In a blog post published on the company's official Yahoo Messenger blog, Sarah Bacon, Product Manager, asks people to vote for their application in order to grab the grand prize. However, consumers' reaction was quite unexpected as it may seem like some users are not willing to give the Sunnyvale-based company their vote.

"Hi Sarah, I will make you a deal. I'll vote for YM as soon as you guys fix all the bugs and server problems, and exploits. I havent been able to photo share or send files for months now. Stop teasing us with special avatars or smileys or other stupid little functions that no one really cares about and get the basics fixed first. You are loosing ground to other IMchat rooms hosts like PalTalk. They have no bugs, no bots, and no booters. Take a look for yourself and compare," Dilbert, one of the readers of the Yahoo Messenger blog, mentioned in a comment.

Getting back to the YM contest, it also includes a "Best Mac Instant Messenger" section so, in case you're one of the Apple consumers who are currently looking for a software product to chat on the web, you may try the ones which have reached the final - Adium, iChat and Yahoo Messenger for Mac.
