Along the years, Dita Von Teese has managed to turn herself into the almost universally acknowledged symbol of subtle feminine seduction. She doesn't have huge breasts, her hair is not cliché platinum-blonde and she is not making outrageous media statements every day, taking drugs or talking about penis size and breast enlargement. She has turned elegance into an art and is proving with her every public appearance that sometimes less is more. Her unique shows electrify those who watch them, and she has brought back the sexy and thrill in vintage lingerie and reintroduced the burlesque (the 1940s trend of classic striptease) as an art that is set to bring joy to all those who deem themselves connoisseurs.
It was therefore only a matter of time before The Queen of Burlesque and former wife of eccentric Goth rock star Marilyn Manson decided it was time to take a more active role in designing and selling her particular type of vintage lingerie. Am I the only one who thinks this will turn out to be a huge success? I mean, Dita von Teese designing and selling
underwear is probably the equivalent of taking cooking lessons directly from Jamie Oliver or Serena Williams personally teaching you to play tennis. It's a match made in underwear heaven, and all the women of the world can feel rightfully entitled to profit from it - which will probably happen some time in September this year, when the... ahem, palpable results of the deal Dita just closed with Wonderbra will hit stores in the UK and France.
"I really hope that with this new range, I can share my passion for sensual, wearable lingerie that will add a touch of glamor to people's everyday lives", Dita said of her decision to step in the famous footsteps of Eva Herzigova and Adriana Karembeu and become the new face of Wonderbra. Well amen to that - and let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope Dita will decide to do a series of shows in order to promote her new underwear range - cause we all know what that means! Plenty of classy striptease and a lot of sexy lingerie to look forward to - which is almost always good news.
