The odd appearance turned out to be a rather small pendant belonging to the 16-month-old boy's sister

SpongeBob SquarePants lives in the city of Bikini Bottom on the floor of the Pacific, or at least this is what he told authorities that his address was. Still, it looks like he occasionally ventures ashore and ends up in the wackiest of places.

In fact, it was not too long ago that, while X-raying a baby boy, doctors in Saudi Arabia were shocked to find SpongeBob staring back at them from inside the toddler's chest. More so since the darn ocean dweller was sticking its tongue out of them and smiling.

In fact, Dr. Ghofran Ageely says that she and her colleagues could even see SpongeBob's shoes, finger's and freckles. Apparently, this character likes to make sure that people notice him and know exactly who he is on those rare occasions when he leaves his home on the ocean floor and ventures in public.

Not a magical, mystical appearance, after all

In a report detailing this medical case, Dr. Ghofran Ageely and her colleagues at the King Abdulaziz University Hospital in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia explain that the image of SpongeBob that they saw in the boy's chest was not some magical, wondrous appearance.

On the contrary, what the medical experts were looking at was a SpongeBob pendant that belonged to the 16-month-old boy's sister and that the toddler had accidentally swallowed without anyone noticing.

Luckily, the SpongeBob pendant was not lodged in the boy's chest or anything of the sorts. On the contrary, the doctors managed to remove it without even having to cut the toddler open. Thus, they simply pulled it out through the child's esophagus.

Since the pendant did not cause him any injuries while stuck inside his body, the 16-month-old boy was allowed to return home with his family shortly after the marine creature was recovered from inside his body. One can only assume that SpongeBob was put on the first dive to Bikini Bottom.

Always keep small objects away from toddlers

Specialists warn that parents should do their best to keep small objects away from toddlers. This is because young children tend to put a whole lot of things in their mouth and can, therefore, swallow objects that might make them sick.

True, it often happens that these objects simply pass through their digestive tract, but some can get lodged in their body. Drooling, vomiting, stomach pain, gagging and coughing are all signs that a toddler might have swallowed something that they were not supposed to.
