More information in the shady case of the unauthorized surgery that led to the death of Joan Rivers has emerged. People are now scrambling to find out the identity of the doctor who performed the biopsy that is believed proved fatal to the 81-year-old comedienne, but so far they are drawing blanks.

The report first came from insiders with the clinic, who insisted that they remain anonymous for fear of legal recourse, but the NY Times now claims to have more information on the matter. It says that the doctor was a nose, ear and throat specialist that was brought into the operating room by Rivers' gastroenterologist, the medical director of the Manhattan clinic where she went to get operated on.

The doctor performing the biopsy came in at the last minute and was not licensed to work at the clinic

This specialist examined Rivers’ voice box twice, before and after the gastroenterologist performed an upper endoscopy, a procedure that uses a tiny camera to take a peek inside a person's digestive system.

Although no one knew the doctor's name, they all insist that she was not licensed to work at the clinic. For those unfamiliar with the current state and federal health regulations, a doctor must have his or her credentials and qualifications reviewed by the clinic in case he or she plans on operating there.

The Health Deparment has begun an unofficial review of the clinic, and no accusations have been made against the gastroenterologist or the nose, ear and throat specialist, since they haven't been found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Insiders reveal that Joan went into cardiac arrest shortly after the procedure

The report alleged that Joan went into cardiac and respiratory arrest after the specialist performed a biopsy on her vocal chords, which she did not sign off on, after her vocal chords seized and cut off her oxygen supply.

The same sources that have made this astonishing accusation have also mentioned that such a dangerous procedure should never be performed at a clinic, only at a hospital. After Joan went into cardiac arrest, it took no more than ten minutes before she was transferred to the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, but those ten minutes proved crucial in her case.

The anesthetic could also be at fault in the case

The other theory in the case of the dead comedienne is that the anesthetic used in the operation was Propofol, the same drug that killed Michael Jackson. This substance is known to have a small margin of error between sedation and respiratory arrest.

The insider reveals that “In the final phase, they noticed her oxygen dropping quickly, they tried to stabilize her,” but when their efforts failed, they called 911. Joan Rivers died on September 4 in the hospital, having never recovered from the surgery.
