Recently, Google announced that the company released a special domain for Google Maps Australia that will allow you to view maps and other imagery from Australia using the new website. Although the Google Maps service enables you to view maps from all around the world, the company decided to introduce a new domain especially to provide quick access to Australian maps. As you know, the search giant tries to celebrate every important event that is somehow related to the company. Take for example, Google Doodles that are replacing Google's official logo with some interesting images concerning a certain event.

Because the company recently announced that Google Maps Australia is available and the Australia Day 2007 will take part this week, the search giant presented an interesting celebration of the event: an airplane sent by Google will take photos with the Sidney landscape, images that will be included in the Google Maps Australia so you can admire yourself directly from Google's service.

The company posted an announcement on the official webpage to inform interested users about latest details of the celebration. Google also revealed a newsletter that helps you subscribe and be informed when the company decides to publish the photos capture from the airplane.

"Google Australia is celebrating Australia Day 2007 by photographing Sydney Harbour from the air, and we want to make sure as many of us as possible squeeze into the picture. So when you see the Google branded plane flying overhead this January 26th, hoist a sign, arrange your family into a fun formation or just get a bunch of friends together to wave. The plane has permission to fly low and will be taking hi-resolution pictures like this one of people on 'Het Plein' in The Hague. Wear or do something distinctive to make sure you can spot yourself," Google said.
