Here comes a fast piece of news now, especially fast because there is some possibility that your kitchen might be on fire even as we speak. How come? It's simple, you just let the boombox (Coby kitchen edition, not some cool gettoblaster)
running in the kitchen and stay now on Softpedia reading the tech news section. By the way you finish reading your kitchen will be aflame because of the Coby... OK, I was kidding, it's not aflame (yet) but it could be because...

Coby is trying to impress the whole world and have people say they can really rock. Now, I kind of doubt they can rock... nevertheless they must be congratulated for trying at least. If you happen to have bought a Coby boombox by the codename MP-CD475 "sold at discount, toy and office supply stores nationwide from August 2006 through December 2006 for between $20 and $50" and you happen to be the misfortunate owner of gear with serial numbers 0736000001 through 0736005000, 0816000001 through 0816005300 or 0826000001 through 0826003500, you're somehow in trouble, because a callback was summoned.

You don't want your house looking this way because of the kitchen radio, do you?

The above Coby boomboxes have some electrical defective components and are predisposed to overheating and posing fire hazard, especially "When left plugged into an electrical outlet and the off switch is not firmly in place" as officially stated in the latest Coby Electronics press release cited by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

So you'd better check if your Coby MP-CD475 portable CD/MP3 player with AM/FM tuner is or not on the list and if it is, contact Coby Electronics for a refund. If your gear is not on the list you could try and switch for something more of a real boombox, though...

About 18 reports of overheating were filed and three of them also claimed property damage, by the time this article was posted.
