When publisher Capcom announced that it was bringing in Western developer Ninja Theory to handle the Devil May Cry reboot, a lot of gamers were disappointed. However, one representative of the studio says that working on the game has created a strong bond between the two teams.

Dominic Matthews, who is a community manager working at Ninja Theory, has told VG247 that, “There’s a lot of talent on both sides. Capcom has got such a rich heritage in fighting games, probably better than anyone else in the world. So, it’s humbling for us to work with these people who know fighting games so well.”

He added, “What we bring to the table is a different set of skills. We bring story-telling, visuals, action gameplay that we’ve shown in our previous games, and there is a huge mutual respect. The relationship between Capcom and Ninja Theory is really strong.”

Despite the cultural differences between Ninja Theory and Capcom, Matthews believes that the two companies are rather similar because they both have high standards and they respect the results of each other’s work.

DmC: Devil May Cry is a reboot and will have a different aesthetic and new gameplay mechanics, although it will keep the core structure of the series.

The changes to the look of main character Dante were badly received by the fan base but, since then, Ninja Theory has offered more information on their approach and the player community seems to have accepted some of the changes.

Dominic Matthews has also revealed that the new game would offer a very interesting take on Vergil, revealing a new side to his story, although he will not be playable in Devil May Cry.

DmC: Devil May Cry will be launched on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on January 12 in North America and three days later in Europe.
